Route 66 is the most iconic road trip across America but its length might be off-putting to many people.

I spent three weeks on the road, driving from Chicago to Santa Monica, and I felt like I barely scratched the surface.

There was so much to see along the way, and somehow I always felt I was pushed for time.

‘Airbnb of colour’ promotes segregation and can only makes racism worse

I feel sort of ignorant because until last week, I didn’t realise versions of Airbnb for people of colour was a thing.

Ignorant because services like Noirbnb have been around for at least a year, and more are cropping up all the time, but I have somehow managed to miss this trend.

In case you didn’t know, these alternatives have come into existence because there have been a number of high-profile reports of host racism on Airbnb in recent years.

If you’ve been keenly following the London bar scene, or indeed, the bar scene anywhere in the world, the chances are, you’ll have heard of Ryan Chetiyawardana.

Known as Mr Lyan, Chetiyawardana burst onto the scene in 2013 with his first bar, the super sustainable White Lyan.

The concept meant there were no perishables under his roof – no fruit, and crucially, no ice. Branded spirits were also off the menu and replaced with tinctures and liqueurs made in-house.

Well, buckle up because it’s going to be a seriously long road trip, spanning thousands of miles.

But this most iconic American road trip will not disappoint – you will have many places to stop and hidden gems to discover along the way, and you definitely won’t get bored (unless you hate driving obviously, in which case this is probably not the journey of a lifetime for you).

For some, it’s travelling around New Zealand in a camper van; for others, it’s spotting polar bears in the arctic circle.

Driving Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica has long been one of mine.
