Another new project

Oh no! I’ve only gone and started another newsletter (insert plug for my first newsletter, Money Talk).

More emails. Just what everyone needs right?

Look, I’m not going to claim this is going to be a groundbreaking newsletter, the type that changes history.

In fact, I already know it’s not going to.

But if you want to receive a short post from me once a month on what I’m writing about, what I’m up to, and what I’m curious about then insert your email here and let’s get started.

Honorable Mention at 2020-2021 SATWF Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards

I’m delighted to announce that I received Honorable Mention at the 2020-2021 Society of American Travel Writers Foundation Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards.

The Honorable Mention was in the category of Travel News/Investigative Reporting, for an article I wrote for National Geographic Travel on pandemic era travel when you’re Asian.

You can read the full article here.

Congratulations too, to all the other winners.

Money Talk is a runner up at the 2021 HeadlineMoney Awards

Money Talk is a runner up in the Blog of the Year category at the 2021 HeadlineMoney Awards.

The little project that I launched while on furlough was less than a year old when it was shortlisted for the prestigious awards earlier this year.

It didn’t win this year, but I was still over the moon to be shortlisted.

Many congratulations to the winner and everyone else on the shortlist.

I’ve launched a new project

A short announcement: I’ve launched a new subscription-based newsletter on personal finance.

Money Talk is very different from anything I’ve written about before – I’ve explained my reasoning behind this pivot for the launch post so I won’t labour over them here.

But if you’re curious, you can also read about what was going on behind the scenes before and after I pushed the launch button last week.

You can subscribe to it here:

Meanwhile, I have a lot of learning and writing to do.

Hunan cookbook is one of the 20 best food books of 2014 according to Observer Food Monthly

The Hunan cookbook was picked as one of the 20 best food books of 2014 in this weekend’s Observer Food Monthly.

According to the OFM, the book is “An eclectic collection of recipes from the Pimlico restaurant many consider the best Chinese in Britain”. It’s in great company.

Many thanks to Allan Jenkins and Gareth Grundy.

You can read the piece in the OFM online here, as well as see the other great books in the selection
